Kevin B. Rosenbloom, C.Ped
Founder, Sports Biomechanist

Who is Kevin

Kevin B. Rosenbloom has been in practice since 2003 as a Clinical Biomechanist and Board Certified Pedorthist. His professional focus is conservative and functional treatment of the foot, ankle, knee, hip and back pathologies related to overuse and stress injuries. He is the inventor of Biomechanical Intelligence, a clinical exam method which reveals the etiology of orthopaedic pathologies. Using Biomechanical Intelligence, Kevin applies conservative methods to change patient specific tissue stress through modifying physical activity, gait training, orthotics, and physiotherapy. Kevin's clinic is in Santa Monica, California. Kevin's exam methods and foot orthotics are provided nationwide by orthopedic surgeons, podiatrists, physical therapists and chiropractors. Kevin has lectured nationally, published several papers, developed clinical guides and is an editor of the International Journal: Foot and Ankle Specialist. Kevin attended Northwestern Medical School for his Pedorthic education and furthered his training under the world renowned Dr. Lowell Weil, Sr. at the Weil Orthopedic Institute.

Our Approach

The science of you.

Pedorthics is the management and treatment of conditions of the foot, ankle, and lower extremities requiring fitting, fabricating, and adjusting of pedorthic devices. Pedorthic devices include: shoes, foot orthoses, athletic shoe gear, boots, slippers, sandals, socks, hosiery, night splints, bandages, braces, partial-foot prosthetics, or other devices that interact with the foot.

A Certified Pedorthist is an individual who is trained in the management and treatment of conditions of the foot, ankle, and lower extremities requiring fitting, fabricating, and adjusting of pedorthic devices.

Credentialed Pedorthists usually work as specialists on a team. Credentialed Pedorthists are specialists in using footwear to address lower-limb-related problems, pathologies and performance enhancement biomechanics. Credentialed Pedorthists understand the properties of devices and the interaction between device and patient. A Physician determines and prescribes what kind of assistance a patient should be provided and a credentialed pedorthist provides the pedorthic device.

Pedorthists give physicians and patients a whole range of conservative - or non-surgical - treatment options. Increasingly, doctors and other qualified prescribers write pedorthic prescriptions to relieve pressure, redistribute weight, accommodate or support conditions, prevent injuries, compensate for imbalances or overuse, and preclude the worsening of damage to the foot. In addition to addressing lower limb problems, footwear prescriptions can address foot-related problems, such as lower back pain, pelvic imbalances, or other limits to physical ability to perform. Like all prescriptions, a footwear prescription takes into account medical history, activities of daily living, and treatment goals. Credentialed Pedorthists follow up with patients to make sure fitted pedorthic devices function as prescribed.

Pedorthic Education:
Credentialed Pedorthists study foot and lower limb anatomy; pathology; biomechanics, which involves human locomotion; gait analysis; footwear fitting; lower extremity orthotic design, fabrication and materials; shoe construction and modification; and patient/practice management. In addition, to become Credentialed, Pedorthists seek hours under supervision of a Credentialed Pedorthist to familiarize themselves with approaches, terminology, techniques of fabrication and clinical care. After studying and being mentored, Pedorthists attend specific Pedorthic courses which are prerequisites for certification examination. Credentialed Pedorthists maintain their certification by following continuing education and renewal requirements.

Necessary for patient education, to discover an understanding of repetitive tissue strain pain and to developing solutions to change repetitive forces in a balanced manner.
